Deicke Richards marks its third PARK(ing) day

23 Sep 2010

Deicke Richards celebrated international PARK(ing) Day on Friday 17 September – giving up its car parks for open public space.

The practice’s car parks were transformed into temporary green space featuring a monumental turf sofa, trees and spaces for outdoor work stations and routine meetings.

Neighbours and colleagues met for lunch in the ‘park’.

PARK(ing) Day calls attention to the importance of green public space in the city and, this year in Brisbane, there were sites in the city centre, Fortitude Valley, Newstead, West End and the campuses of Queensland University of Technology and University of Queensland.

This year’s installation by the Deicke Richards’ team was titled ‘Sofa so good’, in recognition of a UK National Trust campaign encouraging people to spend less time on the sofa and more time in the park.

The team also created PARK(ing) Day installations in 2008 and 2009. However, this year, the practice committed to permanently giving up two of its car parks for permanent green space outside its Fortitude Valley building.

Thanks to Dig It! Landscapes, Black Pearl Epicure, Greenstock Nurseries, Leda Security and Corporate Culture for supporting the Deicke Richards site.
