Mackay plans future for city centre
16 May 2011
Mackay Regional Council has been working with a consortium led by Deicke Richards to map out the future for the city of Mackay.
In conjunction with Lat 27, Cardno, Elton Consulting, AEC and Buckley Vann, Deicke Richards has completed a background study and engaged the council, community and city stakeholders in an intensive enquiry by design process. The work will shape the City Centre Strategy and Local Area Plan.
Mackay City Centre is the principal activity centre of the growing Mackay region, which has a projected population of 200,000 residents by 2031.
Mackay has a history of innovation, being the first city in Queensland to have a town plan. This new work contributes to revitalising the city centre and provides direction for the management of future growth in a more sustainable manner.
