“No ordinary church” dedicated

4 May 2017

Hundreds of people gathered last week for the dedication of Maroochydore’s new Stella Maris Church by the Archbishop of Brisbane, The Most Reverend Mark Coleridge. ‘Maroochydore is no ordinary parish and this is no ordinary church’, Archbishop Coleridge commented during the two hour dedication ceremony. The architecture of the new church responds expressively to its coastal setting, with an interior almost completely open to the surrounding outdoor gathering spaces. The church is co-located with St Vincent’s new aged care facilities and both were designed by Deicke Richards. The practice worked initially with the parish and with St Vincent’s to master plan the central Maroochydore site. More details and images in our case study.
