Weddell Conference and Design Forum
13 Oct 2010
Deicke Richards is consolidating a presence in Darwin with involvement in the design of the Northern Territory’s newest city, Weddell.
Located about 40km from the Darwin City Centre, Weddell will house 40,000 to 60,000 people.
To progress planning for the city, the Northern Territory Government hosted the Weddell: Tropical, Sustainable, Liveable – Towards 2030 Conference and Design Forum on Monday 27 September through to Friday 1 October 2010.
The conference included an invitation only enquiry by design process. Eight scenarios were developed and tested by a 60-strong team including specialist consultants and representatives from government, industry and the community.
Deicke Richards Director Peter Richards and urban designer Cassie Boyle participated as urban designers on two teams. Peter also contributed to the conference program with a presentation to the design team on tropical urbanism.
