Practice Profile

Deicke Richards is a medium sized practice established in Brisbane in 1994. The practice now has two premises, one in Brisbane and one on the Sunshine Coast.

Two founding Directors, John Deicke and Peter Richards together with Directors Eloise Atkinson and Cameron Davies, foster the practice’s collaborative design culture. This extends from the internal project team to external stakeholders and is evident in the effective use of design workshops.

Deicke Richards undertakes projects ranging in scale from interiors to new towns and regional plans. Our work has received constant affirmation evidenced by awards from our founding year to present. Awards Profile

Urban Design

As urban designers we have developed ideas about the nature and form of the city which address social, environmental and economic conditions. Through projects for neighbourhoods, town centres, urban expansion and urban regeneration, we seek to create memorable environments that have a distinct sense of place.

Architecture

As architects we understand implicitly the elements of the city for living, working, gathering, trading and healing. We value an appropriate, humane, regional architecture which responds to user needs and aspirations. We have achieved these goals on large, complex and highly serviced buildings, small joyful community buildings and housing projects including affordable housing.

Community

As community designers, we engage in participative and consultative methods which allow stakeholder and community involvement in the design process. This strengthens our understanding of the rich and complex relationship between people and place. These participative approaches are often utilised on architectural and urban design projects.

Landscape
Design

As landscape architects, we believe that environments and spaces should be developed to nurture the mind, body and spirit of users. We are equally concerned with the functional, aesthetic and cultural aspects of our design practice and create places that sensitively marry the requirements of both the environment and people.

Planning

As town planners we bring a comprehensive knowledge of local government processes and procedures and a thorough working knowledge of the Integrated Planning Act (1997). This allows us to enable the translation of design outcomes into statutory documents.
