This interior provides 1100m2 of teaching facilities for the Bachelor of Environmental Design (Architectural Studies) at Griffith University, Gold Coast. The facilities occupy the 2nd floor west wing of the Science, Engineering and Architecture Building, also designed by Deicke Richards. The space provides seminar and meeting rooms, an exhibition area and a generous studio designed with a high degree of flexibility to support varying teaching needs and approaches.
The interior is home to the Gold Coast’s first architecture program. It supports the high level of collaboration and interaction essential to both contemporary teaching environments and workplaces. The design philosophy centres around three key themes: interaction, flexibility and space that can be personalised by the users. The materials, detailing and limited colour palette create a simple, restrained interior, where the students’ work is the visual focus. The work was completed in 2010.
