Green Harvest is a web-based retailer of organic gardening products based at Maleny. Having outgrown its existing premises, the company decided to plan a new office complex at Witta incorporating a garden centre and demonstration garden. The garden is intended to feature many of the plants and products available from Green Harvest to educate and inspire visitors and demonstrate strategies useful for home gardens.
The landscape plan incorporates water sensitive landscape design – draining and filtering runoff and encouraging maximum infiltration. Rainwater, grey water and bore water will be used to irrigate the gardens. The design includes an area for terraced annual vegetables, a pond for aquatic vegetables, areas for perennial vegetables and groundcovers and an orchard of fruit and nut trees. Edible plants will be used throughout the landscape, with fruit trees and edible groundcovers extending into the car park area and surrounding the building.
