Hill End Eco House

Client: Private client

Deicke Richards has been commissioned by the owners of the Hill End Eco House to design a low maintenance, child-friendly landscape. The existing garden was inundated by the January 2011 floods in Brisbane. The new garden will complement the widely published, 6 star environmentally sustainable house, designed for its previous owners by Riddell Architects. The garden incorporates sustainable practices including the use of rainwater and grey water. To encourage ground water infiltration and minimise runoff, permeable paving surfaces have been used where possible and areas of turf, gravel and planting have been maximised. Locally sourced and recycled materials have been used for the hardscape. The planting plan features low maintenance edible plants, fruit and nut trees and bushes. Indigenous plantings, which provide food and habitat for local wildlife, are also featured.
