Kim Walters Choices garden

Client: The Kim Walters Choices Program

A restorative garden has been designed by Deicke Richards as a pro-bono project supporting The Kim Walters Choices Program. The Choices program offers support for women living with breast and gynaecological cancer and is based at The Wesley Hospital, Toowong. The new garden will provide a lush green entry to the Choices building and a tranquil backdrop for its outdoor terrace. Much of the garden is in deep shade, so the dominant plantings are ferns and other plants that will thrive in these protected conditions. Pink foliaged plants feature in the design and a ribbon of pink Syngonium weaves through the area, referring to the well known ‘Think Pink’ campaigns and the Choices logo.

Landscape architect Arno King designed the garden and assisted the Choices team to secure additional support from nurseries and landscape suppliers. Gardening identity Colin Campbell ‘turned the sod’ on 16 August 2011 and a team of volunteers will work together to plant on 1 October.
