Deicke Richards turned its carparks into a forest – just for a day – to mark international PARK(ing) Day on Friday 16 September 2011.
PARK(ing) Day calls attention to the importance of open public space in the city.
The global open-source event began in San Franciso in 2005 and is now celebrated around the world, with carparks being temporarily turned into open space for people.
This year there were Brisbane PARK(ing) Day sites in Fortitude Valley, the CBD, Paddington and West End.
The event encourages communities to rethink how streets are used and how cities can be made more sustainable.
The Deicke Richards site was designed by landscape architect Arno King and interior designer Magda Myszkowski, with support from Dig-It! Landscapes, Pallara Trees, Leda Security and furniture and lighting designer Darcy Clarke. The site’s forest theme was chosen, in recognition of international year of the forest.
