This significant project for the emerging city of Springfield is a high security, heavily serviced facility for computer data storage. It provides 24/7/365 security and facility management services on site. The building is located in the Parkside Business Precinct on Sinnathamby Boulevard.
Polaris is the first purpose built data centre in South East Queensland and Deicke Richards provided full architectural services for the project. Our design team was responsive to the specialised needs of this emerging building typology and proactive in dealing with the many technical and material constraints associated with the building type. The resulting form is coherent and directly expressive of its functional organisation. A rich palette of materials breaks up the building’s four-storey mass and complements the adjacent Springfield Towers.
The data centre began operating in February 2009, after 18 months of construction, and is an important piece of local infrastructure. As the second building in the business precinct, the project is intended as part of a growth node for future development. Its visible location in the Parkside Business Precinct provides a symbolic expression of Springfield’s commitment to information and communication technology.
