Redland Bay Leisure Life

Client: Petrac

Redland Bay Leisure Life breaks the mould of traditional gated retirement enclaves, creating instead a retirement village with an urban character and a legitimate town centre. The town centre provides businesses and amenities servicing both Leisure Life residents and the surrounding Redland community.

The concept for the project was developed through an intensive five day workshop process, undertaken with Petrac and the adjoining residents and stakeholders. The workshop  was structured to ensure successful integration of the master plan outcomes within the existing community.

The urban design master plan includes a range of commercial, community and residential uses in close proximity to each other,  strongly anchored by a pedestrian main street and well defined pedestrian connections, linking nodes to each other and to residential areas.  Urban vitality is assisted through a mix of uses and a reasonable density of population within walking distance of the centre. Deicke Richards assembled a diverse architectural design team including two other architectural practices, Conrad Gargett Architecture and Plazibat Jemmot, to deliver a rich variety of architectural responses.

The first stage of this project was completed in 2008 and includes two and three bedroom units as well as individual independent living units arranged in a traditional street pattern.
