This workshop investigated the future of Mackay’s second biggest settlement, Sarina. It followed the work undertaken in Marian and Mirani, also completed for Mackay Regional Council. The area is experiencing significant growth pressures, both in the township of Sarina and in its highly scenic coastal communities. The enquiry by design workshop investigated options for the growth and development of Sarina and the surrounding communities. It explored how these places might develop (if at all) over time, while dealing with pressure for growth, lack of infrastructure and opportunities for employment, and economic development. As with our previous work, the workshop outcomes formed the basis of Local Area Plans being developed for these areas.
This was part of a body of work awarded a 2010 PIA Qld Award for Planning Excellence for Planning Achievements in Small and Local Communities.
