USQ Springfield

Client: Springfield Land Corporation

Located at the heart of the Education City precinct, the University of Southern Queensland’s Springfield Campus has a bold and simple design. The attention to detailing and finishes creates an elegant, legible and functional campus.

A grand pedestrian boulevard is flanked by Moreton Bay Figs. This creates a dramatic and memorable experience and emphasises the central spine of the campus. A large circular lawn provides a multi-purpose area at the core of the campus. Clusters of mulberry coloured concrete cubes provide an appealing sculptural element and also provide seating and tables for students.

Shade and comfort were major considerations in the design. Tree planting utilises hardy species that have proven themselves in the Springfield district and grow well in the clay soils. Low maintenance groundcovers and shrubs complement these plantings and provide a foil to the buildings and infrastructure.

The project was commissioned by the Springfield Land Corporation and the campus landscape was completed in 2004.
