Deicke Richards was part of a multi-disciplinary alliance, with SMEC Australia, Barclay Mowlem and Brisbane City Council, which investigated strategies for upgrading the roadway approaches to the Story Bridge. Urban design and landscape architectural input was sought to integrate this major traffic route with robust, high quality pedestrian environments and to create a memorable city gateway.
Visual assessments, community consultation and traffic audits informed the development of urban design strategies to improve traffic conditions; pedestrian accessibility; safety and amenity. Landscape design focussed on responding to the existing character, providing a high quality pedestrian environment and addressing Brisbane City Council maintenance requirements. The project also includes artworks made from recycled roadway materials.
Deicke Richards contributed to preliminary design meetings, community consultation, landscape master planning, design and documentation. The project was completed in 2005.
