The $2.03 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital, due to open in 2016, will be at the centre of a new Kawana health precinct within the emerging Kawana Town Centre. The precinct will also include a private hospital and complementary commercial, residential and community uses. With lead consultant Conrad Gargett Architecture and healthcare planning and architecture firm MAAP, from London, Deicke Richards provided specialist urban design input on the Master Plan and continues to advise Queensland Health on the implementation of the project.
The 20ha Kawana health precinct is at the corner of Lake Kawana Boulevard and Kawana Way. The hospital site and complementary uses are organised on an urban street and block network in order to create high quality urban places that will integrate with the town centre. A centrally located plaza and public transport stop is a major focal place, which links to the adjacent lakeside park and waters edge.
