Previous visual assessment of the Sunshine Motorway between Maroochydore and the Sunshine Coast Airport informed the detailed design and documentation of landscape works on this motorway upgrade. Based on the existing vegetation, six precincts were identified and reinforced with new plantings and treatments aimed at enhancing landscape character and driver experience.
Planting palettes were researched and developed to perform well in the exacting conditions and to minimise future maintenance for the project client Queensland Transport and Main Roads.
The project included developing treatments for tilt and retaining walls, and noise barriers. An abstract Melaleuca forest pattern in relief form was developed to respond to the surrounding site character.
Deicke Richards worked as a subconsultant for SMEC Australia. The project was constructed in 2006.
