Underwood Park, located on Underwood Road, is one of the most popular parks in South East Queensland. The new design by Deicke Richards has expanded on earlier landscape design work at the park. The project aimed to enhance the park’s function as a space for weddings and ceremonies, as well as providing additional recreational areas and linkages to the adjacent lagoon.
The design connects the existing car park to a new amphitheatre and ceremonial lawn. A curved arbour provides an attractive entry and backdrop to the amphitheatre. Flights of steps link this new area to the adjacent lagoon and surrounds. A concrete channel has been replaced by a more natural man-made ‘creek’ and rainforest area.
The project’s scope extended from concept design to documentation of the landscape works. The project was completed in 2009.
