Enquiry by Design

Deicke Richards is sought after for its expertise in collaboration and facilitation, especially through the enquiry by design process.

The process brings stakeholders together to create agreed, high quality planning and design outcomes. It can reveal otherwise unseen opportunities and has proven – time and again – to be cost and time efficient.

The enquiry by design process is consultative and creative. End designs are thoroughly informed by careful structuring of a problem and identifying and prioritising constraints and needs. Through workshops or charrettes we involve participants in the design process, developing and comparing a range of design options. Rather than engaging with static lists of requirements, this provides a dynamic forum for involving our clients and their stakeholders in the design process. This approach has proven important in ensuring outcomes that support sustainable urbanism and which genuinely respond to our clients’ briefs.

Our team has expertise in delivering this enquiry by design process for projects at all scales. Recent examples include:

  • Schools and education facilities, where prioritised planning outcomes have contributed to successful funding applications for future capital projects
  • Planning for new settlements and new cities in regional Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
