Research

We invest time and energy in research that has a direct impact on our work. These research efforts allow us to bring tested knowledge to our clients’ projects.

Our research expertise includes urban settlement patterns, innovative and affordable housing, sustainable design, transit oriented development, green infrastructure and water sensitive design.

Recent and current examples of our research and scholarship include:

  • A current commitment to a research project, led by the University of the Sunshine Coast, exploring creative models of infill development for seniors.
  • The Next Generation Planning handbook, released in early 2011; we drew on years of urban design research to contribute to this publication, working with lead consultants Buckley Vann Town Planning Consultants.
  • Speaking at key international conferences; Director Peter Richards was one of six keynote speakers at Subtropical Cities 2011, hosted by the Florida Atlantic University in March 2011. He also spoke at the annual Congress for the New Urbanism conference in Madison, Wisconsin, in June.
  • Writing and publishing; Eloise Atkinson shared her knowledge of the specific design requirements of affordable housing for The Quarterly, published by Queensland Shelter. Eloise is a former recipient of a Churchill Scholarship to study innovative design in affordable housing.
